The Maldives has always been a dream destination for me, and thankfully Jonny loved the idea of it too – so when it came to choosing where we went on our honeymoon, it had to be the Maldives. Not wanting to settle for just one place, we decided to stop over in Dubai on the way back.
When we returned from our honeymoon, I was so excited to finally share all the photos with everyone, but realised it would take me some time to sort through them all. So, I decided to do a countdown of our top 10 best honeymoon moments, by posting some photographs relating to a different favourite moment/experience each day – almost like a ‘teaser’ of what’s to come, culminating in the ‘release’ of the final albums at the end. Oh I do love a good photo countdown!
We will be doing a more detailed blog about our stay in the Maldives and Dubai. But to give you some perspective before reading the list, I guess it would help to know where we stayed. In the Maldives, we had a Pool Villa on Kuramathi Island Resort, which was a 20min seaplane trip from the capital city of Male. In Dubai, we stayed at the Atlantis on the Palm, where we got a lucky room upgrade. It was our first times in both these places, and we still can’t get over what an incredible experience we had.
So here it is!
#10 – Food in the Maldives
Every single meal and restaurant on Kuramathi was absolutely lovely. Every cuisine we tried was on point and the breakfast buffet was one of the best and most varied we’ve ever had. We took great pleasure in binging on everything, especially after months of working hard on our wedding bods.
#9 – The Atlantis, Dubai
Our first time staying at a hotel with its own aquarium. The best part of staying at the Atlantis were the aquarium walls that we’d walk past everyday to watch the fishes, sharks and other marine life. It was definitely the coolest part of any hotel we’ve stayed in till date.
#8 – Ossiano, Underwater Bar & Restaurant
One more of the aquatic theme but this one had to have its own entry. Having cocktails in the underwater bar and restaurant was when we felt like we were living the glitzy lifestyle of the rich and famous. Nice that our friendly manta ray keeps popping by
#7 – Views from the top of Burj Khalifa
The views from the 148th floor of the world’s tallest building had to obviously figure in here somewhere. We went at a pretty good time to catch the view of Dubai at daytime, sunset and at night time. We also had a pretty cool super-bird’s eye view of the Dubai Fountains show right underneath.
#6 – Candlelit beach dinners
A trip to the Maldives isn’t complete without a romantic private candlelit dinner on the beach. Unfortunately I wasn’t prepared for the challenges of photographing on a dark beach without making it grainy as hell – so I’m posting photos of our romantic candelit beach-adjacent dinner instead.
#5 – Afternoon tea at the Skyview Bar, Burj Al Arab
Not just the highest high tea we’ve had, and with the best hard-to-beat-but-we’ll-try views; but also the biggest. 7 courses! Also, how cool is the cake tray that’s shaped like the hotel!
#4 – Maldives by sea
The clear blue skies and sea seem even more pristine when you’re right in the middle of it … chasing dolphins at sunset
#3 – Maldives by land
Yes, this place does look like all the pictures you see of it. It looks like paradise, especially when you share the experience with the right person.
#2 – Bed and bath views
Imagine waking up to these views every morning, with the sound of crashing waves instead of an alarm reminding you to go to work. Why aren’t we back there already?
#1 – Private Infinity Pool
We spent many a lazy morning and afternoons …and evenings, making the most of our amazing pool and the view from it. We watched the sea, swimmers, snorkellers, sunsets and a storm.
We couldn’t really top this for the best part of our relaxing honeymoon …so we’ll travel some more to try hehe….
