We’ve always professed at being hotel snobs (when we can). Our snobbishness isn’t over service, quality or facilities (although they help!). Instead, we look for the best views, balconies and proximity to the hub of where we want to be.
After a few searches, we found Meliá, Alicante – a 4 star hotel by the beach, satisfying our needs. We booked ourselves a ‘Premium sea view room’ with breakfast included (we do love ourselves a good hotel breakfast buffet).
The Meliá was a 20 minute taxi ride from Alicante airport which cost us around €18. You can get to it cheaper by getting a local bus – but we couldn’t be bothered ha!
We had an early flight into Alicante, which meant we ended up checking in to the hotel quite early around 10 am, so we couldn’t quite get into our room just yet. We left our suitcase with the concierge, and went exploring. You can read our blog ‘Sights of Alicante’ for more on this.
We arrived back at the hotel around 1pm and settled in for a few drinks at the bar named ‘Cool and Casual’, which I guess you could say was exactly that.
Located on the 5th floor, we walked along the longest hotel hallway ever, to get to our room. Now we aren’t professional vloggers (yet!), but here’s a phone video to introduce you to our room. We had a twin because all the doubles and kings of the premium sea view rooms were booked up.
The bathroom had a sliding door from the bedroom, and was a pretty decent size with a Jacuzzi bath and one of those multi-hose showers (do you know the kind? the one with 6 different hoses that can shower every part of you). Unfortunately, the Jacuzzi bath didn’t work.
The best part of the room however, was definitely the balcony, with views over Postiguet beach, the sea and some of the castle. The balcony had a table and 2 deck chairs – perfect for lounging on with a book whilst people watching on the beach ….IF you had a lovely sunny warm day – we had sunshine but no warmth.
One morning, we woke up to this beautiful sunrise…
While we were out exploring, and it became too cold or windy, we returned to the room for a quick siesta. After a quick photo shoot with this view again, we’d head back out.
At sunset, the view was just as magical…
….and at night time, the beach-front lit up.
The breakfast was pretty good. There were all the usual stuff for the buffet – breads, cheeses, fruits, meats, juices, eggs – and even milkshake and champagne. We were too busy stuffing ourselves to get any decent pictures 😛
Until, our next hotel stay, adios!
Love, DJK x
